To celebrate 50 years of label printing excellence at our All4Labels UK Hull site, we are proud to launch our ‘Decades’ campaign! This is a special collection of six labels that take us on a journey through the history of not only our Hull site, but the label industry.
Each label represents a defining moment in our history. Showcasing how far we’ve come as a business, but also the evolution of digital label printing and embellishment technologies that continue to set us apart today.
1975 – The Beginning
It all started in 1975, when Albert Dass planted the roots of ‘Springfield Solutions’.
To honour our Hull site’s origins, this label captures a vintage moment of Albert in his early days as a printer.
We chose to print the first label design in our Decades series on a paper substrate to reflect the throwback feel. Designed in stripped-back black and white tones, this label perfectly captures the nostalgic feel of the era and the pioneering spirit that laid the foundation for our success.
1985 – A Decade of Growth
Fast forward ten years to 1985, we land in a decade poignantly defined by colour and creativity.
This label celebrates our longest-serving team member, Jane Stephenson, who recently marked an incredible 40 years with the business.
Inspired by the bold design styles of the 80s, the artwork embraces the full CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Key (Black)) colour process.
The image is also set with visible half tones as a nod to the early days of digital halftoning that revolutionised image reproduction. This technology became available in the new generation of imagesetter film and paper recorders, developed from early laser typesetters.
1995 -The Digital Leap
The 90s was a time of bold experimentation, both culturally and technologically. This decade also marks our first investment in digital print. Which means we have been a leader in this field for over 30 years!
Therefore, the label design channels the colourful, high-energy aesthetic of 90s TV shows. Featuring All4Labels UK Hull printer John Stephenson, who also celebrated 40 years with the business this year.
Printed on silver PP with raised digital spot varnish, the design embraces the playful, almost garish textures of the time.
2005 – The Repro Revolution
The early 2000s brought rapid technological change, and our reprographics team was at the centre of it all.
This label features an innovative peelable element. The computer screen graphic peels back to reveal a throwback image of Brand Management Operator, Robin McCoid in front of a computer of the decade!
Printed on silver PP with digital spot varnish, it highlights both the tactile and technical creativity that defines our approach to label design.
2015 – 100% Digital
By 2015, our Hull site had transitioned to 100% digital print. This marked a milestone that transformed how the site operates to this day.
To reflect this leap forward, we chose to print the label on clear material. Adding luxurious gold foil and contrasting textures.
A tactile spot varnish pattern paired with a matte finish to the lower part of the label creates a premium, multi-dimensional look. A celebration of innovation and craftsmanship.
2025 – 50 Years of Excellence at All4Labels UK Hull
Now we arrive at our biggest milestone yet – half a century of our Hull site!
The final label in the series brings everything together to celebrate 50 years of our Hull site with our latest digital embellishments.
The final label in our decade series is printed on a silver PP. This achieves stand out metallic effects in multiple colours without the use of multiple foils. The raised textures which embellish the text and 50 logo add a luxury tactile feel.
It’s a true showpiece for how far we’ve come — and where we’re headed next.
